limited sound functions

hello,

the only sound that now works on my computer is from the windows media
player. there is no sound when windows or the msn internet connnection opens
or closes etc.under the sounds and audio devices properties the first tab
labelled 'volume' shows 'no audio device', which means i cannot access the
settings to adjust the volume.

do i have to install an audio device, how do i do this ?

is this a sound card problem, i'm thinking not as my windows media player is
still producing sound to my speakers

can you help ??

It's probably your Audio Device drivers. If you have a PCI Sound Card
then reinstall the drivers for it. If you have an
onboard audio chip ( Motherboard ) look in System Info to determine
which one you have. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System
Info>Summary
