No sound card?

Ok, the problem is that I can play sound but it says that I do not have a
sound card installed. I can listen to music from media player or itunes but
not anything like on the internet. I am unable to use the volume control
either as it's not in the corner on the task bar like it used to be. Under
sounds, speech, and audio devices, everything is fine except on the volume
tab, it shows that I have no audio device. I tried dowloading the creative
sound blaster driver from the website but that still did not help anything. I
don't know what the problem is because I know my computer has a sound card
and I'm pretty sure all the drivers I need are installed.
