Limited or no connectivity w/ XP & Win 2000

I am trying to network two computers for the home using a Linksys 10/100 5
port switch, The network task bar on comp1 only consistantly displays "
limited or no connectivety."
Comp1: Dell 8100, XP,w/SP2, Linksys LNE fast ethernet PCI card, PCcillin
firewall and antivirus, BIOXS ver.Ao6. Comp2: Dell latitude cpi, Win2000
w/SP3, free edition Zone Alarm firewall, AVS antivirus, BIOS ver.A12, w/3 Com
megahertz lan pc card.
Both computers event logs have error id 1007 "DCHP computer has
automatically assighed ip address for neteork card w/network address
000c4ec7aaf and a simular out of range ip address for comp2. This error
occurs each time the computers are networked and there few pacts that get
through. I can ping on both comp1 and comp2 both the ip address
169.254.xx.xx and the computers name as for the respective computers as well
as ping both the ip and computer name from the opposite computer. I really,
really need help, any help will be apperciated

If you only have 2 computers, connected by a switch, you have no DHCP server,
and APIPA addresses, with the "limited or no connectively" error, is normal.

If you can ping each computer, by name, from the other, then I'm not sure that
you have a problem. What exactly are you trying to do, that you can't?

If you're having problems with accessing the files on each computer from the
other, please provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer,
as a diagnostic. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely:

Chuck, I've tried multiple times to get browstat to run from the command
window all unsuccessful and I follow your blog's instructions to the letter,
some kind of improper path that I can't dicipher. I'm unable to share files
from comp1 to comp2 or access the internet via the network. I will paste
