Howdy,
I am having a heckuva time getting two home computers networked. My new
computer is running Win XP Pro and I am trying to connect to one
running Win2000 Pro, both desktops.
I did successfully manage to connect the two earlier this week, but now
I can't do it again. I need to transfer some more files from the Win2k
machine to the new Win XP machine. I have manually assigned the host
computer an IP address of 192.168.1.101 and the other computer
192.168.1.102 (both with subnet addresses of 255.255.255.0). If I ping
each machine's own internal IP address, it works, but I cannot
successfully ping the IP address of either networked machine.
This is my first attempt at networking two home computers and it's
about to get the best of me. I can't understand how I had it working
one day and then when I booted both computers the next day they
couldn't establish a successful network connection.
Any pointers on how to troubleshoot the connection would be most
appreciated. Thanks much.
Happy Holidays!
