i am trying to set up a home network between a dell desktop and dell laptop,
both running on windows xp. previously could connect fine, then had major
issues in which neither computer was able to share files. took laptop (which
im pretty sure was the problem as i couldnt share files when i connected this
to other computers also) and was told it was all fixed. my problem now is
that the desktop can access files on the laptop, yet the laptop is coming up
with limited or no connectivity, and when i click repair, it tries to renew
ip address which it cant do. how do i fix this? thanks all

Can you access files on the desktop from the laptop also? What operating system
(name, edition, and service pack level) on each computer?

The "limited or no connectivity" simply says that the computer tried to get an
assigned address, but wasn't provided with one. It sounds like both computers
automatically configured themselves.
