Leftover files and folders after removing programs

I have recently gone into my control panel to remove several programs but I
seem to have some residual files and folders left over.

Some of programs I removed in the control panel and I was still able to
execute them.

Can someone tell me how to safely but completely get rid of any residual
files and folders that may be leftover after I have deleted them from the
control panel?

I currently run Windows XP.

Hi there,

A lot of programs leve behind residual programs after un-installation
This is usually for one of two reasons:

1. The files were created after the origanal setup procedure not a
part of it.

2. The files are chared and could be used by other programs.

Most of the time it is option 1 as shared files are usually stored i
common areas and not the same folder where the application resides.

The uninstallation program should have removed all links to these spar
files in the registry etc so it should be safe to delete them.

If you want to play it safe winZIP them or move them elsewhere first
that way you could restore them if you start getting problems.

Hope this helps.
