Left over directories in th root of C:

I recently upgraded my Xp Pro to Vista Ultimate. Upgrade was fine and
everything is working. i noticed two directories in the root of my C: drive
after the install that contain several GB of files in them, most of it seems
redundant from my old XP. the two directories are called:

c:\$windows.~q

and

c:\$inplace.~tr

What are these directories? and can i get rid of them?

Hi,

I saw those in a couple of builds as well, but not the RTM. I deleted them
after perusing the contents and determining that they were just leftover
from setup and the clean up routine had failed to remove them.
