lcd monitors

Not real technical, so I need help. I have an Intel 82845G graphics
controller. I would like to purchase a 19" wide screen LCD monitor. I
cannot add a graphics card according to Gateway. Can I use these
graphics or am I wasting my time and should I just purchase a reguler
19". The largest screen area I see for this controller is 1600 x 1200.
Or will the drivers for the LCD change the screen size?

according to the intel web site the card is no longer in production and no longer supported.
that means no new drivers.
you might get a standard lcd to work but forget the wide screen.

why are they telling you no video card, no slots available or what.

if it is that old, might look in to buying a new computer and have the wide screen lcd included.

Gateway"s answer to me was the motherboard does not have an AGP port
to support an add on video card. A new computer is out of the question
right now. So I guess the standard LCD is in. Thanks for the help.
Very much appreciated.

Even with no AGP port, I would think you could get a graphics card that
would work in a PCI slot. The only problem should be disabling the
onboard video. In some cases, it can be done through the BIOS, or it
might take a jumper on the mb.

make sure when you buy the monitor it has both digital and analog inputs.
the cables are different and not interchangeable.
you will be using the ANALOG input with your video card.

Are you saying that the wide screen monitor should work with the
graphics I have now? Hate to plunk a bunch of money down for something
thats not going to work.

If you're concerned about buying a monitor that won't work with your
video card, and if there's a Costco near to you, consider buying a
widescreen monitor from them. Costco has a VERY generous return policy.
"100% guarantee" means that if you don't like it, they'll take it back
- no questions asked.
