LAN Connection/Dial Up Connection Defaults

I have Winxp SP2 installed and connect to an office LAN and Dial-up with a
Laptop.

I have found that if I disconnect the laptop from the cradle (I frequently
roam the office with it) and then reconnect it, all subsequent Internet
connections try to use the dial-up connection. The dialogue can be cancelled
and web page loaded no probs however, the continuous dialing dialogue
continues to flash up.

I've tried to set the connections to 'never dial a connection' but still it
attempts to dial-up. It's like it doesn't recognise that it is reconnected to
the LAN.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem. With IE on WinXp Home with Service Pack 2,
every time I change the domain that i want to visit, the window for
dial-up connection ask me with wich connection i want to try to
connect, but I'm still connected.

You have find solutions?

that's really difficult to tell, but one possibility is that
updated network adapter drivers and an updated BIOS may solve
the problem. Many manufacturers have rewritten their drivers to
make them more compatible with Service Pack 2.

Thanks for your reponse.

The machine is up-to-date - regularly patched and drivers installed.

For what it is worth, I have ensured that the "Never Dial a Connection" is
ticked under Internet Options----> Connections.

I'm working around it at the moment by deleting the dial-up connection.

one other thought is that you have third party network
configuration software installed, for example, software that
came with the network adapter. Maybe a bit unlikely, but I don't
know any other cause and solution offhand.

My first thought is still a BIOS deficiency. What does the
manufacturer of the computer say? Who is the manufacturer
anyway?

Is the BIOS much older than 2004-09? How about the drivers? If
the stuff is older then the manufacturer has not issued anything
that was tested with SP2.

Did you ever find a solution or cause for this. The options that appear once
you delete the dial-up connection I have never seen before and doesn't seem
to be accessible via the control panel.
