Knoppix and BartePE experts

Hi.

My windows XP don't want to start anymore.
I tried to boot in safe mode, last known good configuration, etc.

As soon as the blue progress bar finish in the windows XP boot, there's an
error BSOD but I don't have enough time to see what is the error.

So I tried to run rstrui.exe booting with Knoppix CD with no luck.
Also, I have a BartPE cd wich used to work but with this one, I can't even
see my C drive but it see my D drive (second partition) For the C drive, it
says paging error or something like this.

I also tried to boot with an old win 98 boot disk to run fdisk to see
partitions and the c drive is there as well as with the Knoppix CD. With
this last one, I can see all my files on my C drive.

Is there a way I could run rstrui.exe or at least, having my windows to stop
on error instead of rebooting ?

Thanks

Did you try Safe Mode with command prompt only?

I had this problem a long time ago - got a video camera? record your
start up get the error then step thru the video to see what's up, it
works.

Not an expert at all, just passing on a link

How to reinstall XP and keep your data.

-I think this is the first time I've suggested someone to reinstall a
system, but you seem to of done what can be done-

It sounds like your file system or your disk has been inflicted
terminal damage. I would reload Windows from scratch,
allowing the disk to be repartitioned and formatted, then
restore all data from my backup. If you do not have a recent
backup then things may get a lot harder. Does the Knoppix
boot show long file names and hidden files? If so then you
could connect a second disk, then use the appropriate Linux
command to copy all files from the damaged disk to the new
disk, including the hidden and system files. If the copy
process is successful then you could boot into the Command
Console and issue the fixboot and fixmbr commands.

If this method does not work then you may have to consider
this unfortunate event as an unpleasant reminder that all
important files must be backed up regularly (e.g. weekly) to
an independent medium.

Now this is funny! I know that this toy operating is so brain-dead one has
to purchase third-party applications to get things like DVD burning, decent
backups, etc. But now one has to purchase a video camera to read its error
messages? Amazing what a multi-billion dollar industry has been created
trying to support this toy operating system.

Yes and even in console mode with fixboot, fixmbr.

try a repair install...boot to the XP CD , go thru the motions of installing
, you will get to a screen which will ask if you wish to repair or reinstall

This wasn't a Windows problem :}

I was trying to install OS/2 Warp, it would start installing, flash an
error message and blank screen.

Video taping it show'd that it didn't like my video card, never was
able to install it on that machine.
