Keep outlook open in icon bar (windows)

okay, the easiest way for my to explain this is with an example: Windows Live
Messenger. Even when you close all of the windows, Live is still open via the
little icon bar, and you can click on that, or when you try to click the
regular run option from start menu or something, it just opens up the main
window.

can you do this with outlook? i see that the icon is open, and it gives you
the option to hide it, but that's the opposite of what i want, i want to be
able to close the main window and have the program still running. suggestions?

Close the main window? No.
Hide when minimized is exactly what you want. Just minimize the main window,
don't close it.

no i dont want to just minimize it, if i just minimize it then i dont need
the icon, it would be pointless. i want to be able to close it like live
messenger. but i guess its not currently possible

I'm confused.

What, precisely, is the difference?

When you 'close' the Windows Live window, all you are doing is hiding the
application window and leaving the application running.

When you enable 'hide when minimized' in Outlook, all you are doing is hiding
the application window *when you minimize*, leaving the application running.

The only difference is what button you click in the Outlook window.

Seriously.

That's what Hide when Minimized does.

It hides the item from the task bar and only leaves the system tray icon.

You mean you didn't actually try it before saying it wasn't what you wanted?
