jopining laptop to domain

I get this message when trying to join our domain any ideas?

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ahgray"
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation

Your first step in any Active Directory troubleshooting should revolve
around DNS.

Can you ping a domain controller by IP address from the laptop?

Can you ping the same DC by its name from the laptop?

Can you perform an nslookup of the DC from the laptop?

Next step would be firewalls - what ports are being blocked between the
laptop and the DC?

Is the DC functioning normally otherwise? Can local clients authenticate
against it? Is it showing any errors in the Event Logs?
