Johnathon Kay: MSN Messenger 6 audio not working

M

MarkM

A friend cannot connect to me via audio chat (although we can type to each other) with the latest Messenger 6 and the ICF running in XP Home. He has UPNP set to manual in his services and has turned off QoS in his internet connection setup. This is a new computer for him - he had the same settings, soundcard, OS and MSN Messenger on his old system and it worked fine. Now ICF does not seem to be automatically opening the ports needed. Suggestions?

Greetings Mark,

If he turns off the ICF (just temporarily to test), does audio work?

I also have same problem. it doesn't matter if ICF is on or off for me.
Funny thing is I can communicate with friends that have Windows XP running
but not those who have other versions of Windows. However one issue I'd like
to bring up is the terrible wining noise (like feedback, whistles) that my
communicating partner hears in his/her speakers as we converse. Any clues.

Hi Nick,

Are the previous version of Windows contacts on dialup connections? If so, there's a current
bug within MSN Messenger 6 which causes PCs without network cards to not properly be able to
have voice conversations, this may be affecting them.

I'm not quite sure what your "feedback" is being caused by, it could be as simple as a mic
too close to a set of speakers.
