JET???.tmp Files in Windows.TEMP folder

Something keeps writing multiple copies of a JET???.TMP file to my
Windows.temp folder. The ??? means the next three characters are variable.
When I try to select and delete them I get an error message that the files
are in use by "Another Program". HOW do I find out what the other program
is so I can disable it? HELP!

So, a few thousand people have asked a similar question. How about ONE
answer? I am running XP, not 2000. I still need to know what program(s)
are causing the problem.

The answer Mary referred you to applies to XP as well as to Win2000. The
files are created by the "Terminal Services" running on your system.
Disable the service (check Services in Computer Management) or delete the
files using a script or manually.

NOTE 1: If you decide to disable this, several XP features depend on
Terminal Services. Check the description and the dependencies of the
service carefully before changing its startup type.

NOTE 2: "Jet" is method of streaming data that several programs use. If you
still end up with jet*.temp files you have a program installed that creates
and uses these to operate.

The answer for me is to learn to live with it and leave it alone. Thanks.

Well, not exactly. You can try disabling terminal services but if XP
features that you like to use don't work, you'll have to make a choice:
restore the service or turn it back on.

If the files are made by a program and you can figure out which one, write
to their technical support and ask them if they have any suggestions for
getting those tmp files cleaned up up other than manually deleting them.

Otherwise, yes - just delete them during your weekly PC housekeeping :
deleting temp files, clearing cache, full system a/v scan and defrag if
needed.
