Java XP Pro

Hi,

I can't seem to install the Java plugin for ie. I
downloaded the latest java sdk from sun which has the
java plugin. It shows up as installed in installed
programs in the control panel but under IE tools/advanced
there is no catagory for Java JVM or a Java Plug-in
catagory. What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Pete

O

oops!!

Pete,

Yes.

Control Panel. You'll see a Java Plug-in icon.

Double click it and it will open the Java(TM) Plug-in Control Panel.

Cheers,

Zee,

It's not there. I also tried to run an applet with no
go. I downloaded the latest Sun java sdk and it said it
installed the plugin but just not there. Any suggestions
as to what I can try to get it to work?

Thanks,

Pete

O

oops!!

Pete,

Weird. At the moment the only suggestion is uninstalling and reinstalling.

I'll try to find something a bit more interesting.

HI Zee,

I installed a later version of the sdk 1.4.0 and that
worked! No matter how hard I tried I could not get the
plugin for ie using 1.4.2_04 to install.

Thanks for all your help Zee !

Pete or Zee,
I have had a myriad of Java problems with this new XP PRO.
I finally got it to work fairly well using the 3809 and 3810 from
MS and I got that from third party. However, I still have one
page on my own website that will not open properly.. Would you
guys maybe have a look and see if it displays properly for you?
http://www.cvinternet.net/~smokydog/peace.htm On my new
XP PRO that page will not display correctly... It leaves the
bottom half of the applet window with nothing but vertical bars
that range in color from white to beige to brown... The upper
half of the applet runs fine. I have made numerous posts all
over the net regarding this with no solution... My old 98 machine
opens it with NO problem... I have a customer that bought a new
XP PRO from me and has the same problem viewing the same page.
Other XP PRO machines I have seen view it fine... I don't understand
what the difference is... Like I said above, my OLD 98 machine opens
it fine... I tried uninstalling the 3809 and 3810 and installing Sun
Java and it wouldn't open ANY of the applets on my site, so I went
back to the MS JVM versions and at least they all open with the
exception of the page noted above... If you would like to view the
other applets on my site, go to the URL below (smokydog) and when
you get to the 3rd page in, you will see a lantern on the left side
and you want to select the PIX lantern and ALWAYS use the next
lantern at the bottom of each page or you won't go thru the sequence
properly...
Thanx for any more insight into this problem.

Thanx to all, but it still won't work on this new power house computer
and it really ticks me off... You would think this new computer would
open ANYTHING... Everything else on it works perfect but that one
web page... OH WELL... I am beginning to wonder if there was something
wrong with the java files that I downloaded from third party..
Strange you say Sun Java 1.4.2_03 would open it.. It wouldn't open
ANY of my java applets on the rest of my site... Soooo, I uninstalled it
or would it make a difference if I had the 1.4.3_04... I understand
that that is now available, but am afraid to d/l it and have it not work.
I haven't had much luck with Sun Java at all on any of my computers.
I have 3 running on a network and the other two are OLD computers
and they open that page just fine running the MS JVM .
OH WELL again, maybe I just learn to live with it.

No need to uninstall MSJVM - see below.

I viewed that page with the MS Java engine (5.0.3810) and all was fine.
Then I switched
<http://www.jensign.com/JavaScience/SelectIEJVM/selectIEJVM.hta> to the
Sun JVM (1.4.2_03b02) and all I saw was some snow in the top half and
the bottom half was solid black. All this under NT5.1SP1 (XP).

I had severe problems with XP and Sun JVM on our company's secure web
pages for our clients. NT5.0(W2K)+Sun JVM worked. Now I have to persuade
our clients to go through the whole shemozzle of installing MSJVM
3809/3810. Standards ...

There IS an error in orchids10.htm: Line 98: excpected ")"
IE exits after scramble.htm.

Why does your site attempt to use port 25?
