Isufficient system resources...

Could anyone help me with a message that I keep receiving from various
programs at random intervals?

"Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service"

I think a problem related to this issue is causing any network active
program to lose its connection - i.e. database paths no longer valid,
accounting software (Sage) locking up when trying to access data etc.

The pc has plenty of RAM and HD space for day to day use so what
resources could it be low on, and what if anything can fix it?

I think it may have more to do with your virtual memory. XP is not being
alocating enough so it is resorting to more "paging". Check to see if the
virtual memory is set to allow XP to manage it.

Virtual memory is set to system managed. Any other suggestions?

Then try a custom size. Set both your initial and maximum size to 2.5 x the
amount of RAM you have.

It is not only Sage, even things like viewing a network drive, or
streaming radio via Windows Media give the error.

However, if I close one or two programs down that are using the network
things go back to normal for a while.

Symptoms are also caused by a program (sounds like Sage in this case) not
releasing resources when closed.
a.go. resources tied up even though program not running.
One of the reasons Microsoft started the Windows log certification on
software packages.

I only used Sage as an example, as that is one of the main programs I
use here. Like I said before, I don't think it is lack of RAM.

According the Task Manager last time the error occurred I have the
following statistics:

Physical Memory
Total 785904, Available 359256, System Cache 450556

Commit Charge
Total 499616, Limit 2585572, Peak 680040

Kernal Memory
Total 59380, Paged 46032, Nonpaged 13348

No takers then?
