Hibernate Insufficient Resources

Guest

I added an additional Gbyte of RAM to my Dell 9100 P2.8GHz D (two Gbyte total).

Hibernate will begin, but before the progress bar for the RAM save to hard
drive is shown, the sytem will return to the desktop with the error message
"Insufficient Windows System Resources Exist to Complete the API"

Any idea what is causing this?

The solution above does not work for service pack 2.

Microsoft needs to fix this. There are *many* people with this same
problem.

I have the same problem with an HP zd7000 with 2gb of ram.

Carey,

It is true:
"The solution above does not work for service pack 2."(e-mail address removed)

The kb article is dated Sept of this year.

I have the Net 2.0 update installed as well as SP2.

Is there any workaround to install the hotfix?

Sorry, but the patch will not work if Service Pack 2 is installed.
You should check to make sure your hard drive is setup to use
"write caching".

Go to Start > Run and type: devmgmt.msc , and hit enter.
This will open your Device Manager. Next, click on the "+"
next to Disk Drives, right-click on the hard drive and select
Properties > Policies and place a check next to "Enable write
caching on the disk", then click OK and reboot.

Carey,

Write caching is enabled, but it is not possible to disable this feature.

I have disabled hibernate for now.

Don't like to give up on a feature, though.

Maybe Carey could get someone at Microsoft to actually address this
issue. A lot of notebooks are being sold that come with 1gb+ installed
and many more can (and will be) be upgraded. This problem will only
become more common.

Thanks,
-Jim
