only just finished upgrading all the pc's to xp pro because of security
issues.

The largest department store in Spain still uses W2K.

Well there is a well known store in Australia called Dick Smiths Electronics
and they were still using windows 3.1 up until about 2-3 years ago. Becuase
it worked. They had no need to upgrade to anything else, because Dick Smith
himself wrote the whole pos system for it.

From the article:

"Vista was being used on less than 1 percent of PCs tracked in February by
Aliso Viejo-based Net Applications Inc., making it the sixth most-popular
operating system. That puts it behind Windows 98, which is still used on
1.5 percent of computers."

Watch Justin avoid this like the plague.

Considering that Vista didn't ship until Jan 31st, you cannot judge figures
in February as any indication of Vista's popularity.

Sorry....nice try but no cookie.

You wish. Compare Vista's release to Win95 when people camped out to be
the first to buy it. Note that Vista is not only less popular than
Win98, it's MUCH less popular than W2K or XP.

That said, Vista IS more popular than Win Me.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Vista: the Win Me of NT. Wait for Vienna, when the promised Vista may
actually appear.

I think you'll find in given time vista will be quite popular. Especially
when service pack 2 comes out. I gave vista the benefit of the doubt and I
am still having grief with it. But i'm going to stick with it because it's
quite good. Service pack 2 I think will get peoples attention quite a lot.

You may be right and time will tell. First, they will have to wake up to
the fact that their ineffective anti piracy programs only inconvenience
the paying customer and do nothing to stop piracy and they will have to
change the silly UAC feature.

That said, I see a lot of new Ubuntu users on the Ubuntu newsgroup that
start out with, "I'm a newbie".

Do you have any idea why aero only works for a little while then just drops
out to the old alt tab thing? I have a 256mb pci e radeo x600 card and 1gb
of ram.

No idea. Unlike you, I am waiting for Vista to reach prime time, if,
indeed, it ever does.

The card is probably borderline powerful enough for it, try turning off some
effects like animations or drop shadows or run it at a lower resolution and
installing the latest drivers.

If it does fall down you can restart it by restarting the UxSms service.

And? There are millions more playstation 2's than playstation 3's but
people are buying the PS3 hand over fist.

A stupid argument from a stupid Loonix Zealot.

Bad comparison. PS3 works. Vista is in Alpha and there's doubt it will
ever reach a true Beta.

The usual insult is the only "argument" the MS fanboys have.

Vista was being used on less than 1 percent...

Not suprising, given that Win 98 has been out for about 10 years and Vista
about a month. The vast majority of Vista sales will be as pre-installations
on new computers (as always). So it's gonna take some time to catch up to
Win 98 installations.

I'd be surprised if Vista surpassed XP before 2010. I'm sure many people
will skip Vista and go for whatever comes after it, when there's plenty of
cheap hardware, working drivers, and good software that doesn't need to be
"installed" to use.
