Is .NET Framework already in FP 2003 ?

B

Brightbelt

Hello -
I am going to be installing StoreFront ecommerce software into my Frontpage
2003 program. I have Windows XP Pro as well. Storefront tells me that I
must have the .Net Framework installed before I can install their software.
I'm not familiar with .NET at all, but if someone could inform me as to
whether it is already installed or not in Frontpage 2003, I'd be very
appreciative. Also, if it turns out I do not have the .NET Framework,
Storefront offers a download of it, so that would be my next option. Thanks
for helping,...Frank Bright

..net is not installed by FP, it is part of Windows.

Got to Control Panel | Add/Remove | and see if it is installed. If not then check Windows Update.

FYI, it's only part of Windows if you're running Windows 2003. If you're on
XP, it's a separate component and won't be available via Windows Update.

Jim: Net framework is available for WinxXP (and 2000) via Windows Update
under "Software, Optional" or can be downloaded from:

Frank,

Also before uploading the SF files to your web host, make sure they support
and have enabled .NET on the server.

Once you upload the files your host will need to set permissions, so you may
want to double check with them to make sure they are familiar with SF.

It is as an optional install (just like, for example, Windows Media Player
10), but it's not an automatic update. But then again, I guess if you get
technical, there really isn't a distinction. In Win2003, it installs with
the OS and is auto-updated via Windows Update. In XP/2000, it's available
as an optional component in WU and then is auto-updated via Windows Update.

Objection overruled. :) (Too much listening to the Roberts confirmation
hearings.)

Unless you hide it, you are always prompted to install it.

Otherwise, it is almost as bad as the Update reminder for SP1 for Windows 2003 Server.

Which, if you are running any .NET applications, you should DEFINITELY
install. We fixed quite a few GC bugs alone that will be very helpful to
you.

I know about the issue that requires you to set the disableloopbackcheck
registry key. If there's another issue for which there isn't a workaround,
I guess you have to pick which is the bigger evil. :)

Not for the issues that I am running into with my local Windows 2003 server. I have had more
problems and issues with it then I have ever had with Windows 2000 Server and the FP2000 extensions.

H i -
Yes my host does offer .Net support - and I have spoken to them about
Storefront, but the permissions thing may still need to be addressed. Thanks
and Thanks to you all...some interesting conversation there. ....Frank

I'm curious as to what happens to FP extensions when installing SP1. I've
not noticed any problems with my FP extensions since installing it. What is
the work around that you are referring to?

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,

Here is the issues I was having after installing Windows 2003 SP1:

When saving files in FP2000, I get the following message:

"An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors - if authoring against a web server,
please contact the webmaster for this server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log
for more details."

The file is saved after a number of tries, as you keep getting directed to the Save As dialog, then
if you click Cancel, and then open the file, you will see that your change were indeed saved.

The server's systems log file indicates that the network adapter was initialized... Basically for
whatever reason the NICs are becoming disconnected and then reconnected.

The other issues I have with Windows 2003 is:

I can not open the IIS MMC and then right click on any web site, select All Tasks | Check Server
Extensions 2002 or Recalculate Server Extensions 2002 web and have these commands work.

I had none of these issues with Windows 2000 Server and any service packs.
