IRQ conflict in laptop

I am getting an IRQ conflict on my Dell D800 when it is
docked in the D-Dock. The conflict is with the secondary
IDE and the com port. When I boot with the laptop docked
the com port goes to IRQ 15 which is also the secondary
IDE. When the laptop is not docked the com port goes to
IRQ 4 and everything is fine. I have tried to delete the
docked hardware profile but it gets recreated. I have
tried to disable the com port in Windows and in BIOS but
it still shows up in device manager. Apparently manually
setting IRQs in XP does don't work unless you completely
reinstall Windows which I want to avoid if possible.

If you don't use the com port, delete it in the bios.

Is this actually causing a problem, or is it just something you'd like
changed?

I tried to disable it in the bios. I did not see an
option to delete it. It still shows up in the device
manager. I rarely use my com port but I never use it
while it is docked. I do use my DVD burner, which is not
working because of this.

I just started getting the exact same behavior on the same hardware, a Dell D800 when docked in the D-dock. I have deleted and reinstalled the com port and secondary IDE ports, disabled the com ports in the bios, disabled the com port in device manager, set the IRQ manually to 4 in device manager (while the com port is disabled), and nothing works. This behavior started all of a sudden, too, as the laptop functioned fine for months until now. Did you ever find a solution?

I have a D800 also with the same problem. Seems a little odd that w
all start having the same problem at the same time. I have run AV
Adaware and Spybot, thinking it might be something of that nature wit
no luck.

That is odd. I will be getting my D800 in a day or two (was shipped
already). I also bought the docking station, so I'll test it out and see
if I can help in a couple of days.
