IRQ conflict with Laptop when docked

I am getting an IRQ conflict on my Dell D800 when it is
docked in the D-Dock. The conflict is with the secondary
IDE and the com port. When I boot with the laptop docked
the com port goes to IRQ 15 which is also the secondary
IDE. When the laptop is not docked the com port goes to
IRQ 4 and everything is fine. I have tried to delete the
docked hardware profile but it gets recreated. I have
tried to disable the com port in Windows and in BIOS but
it still shows up in device manager. Apparently manually
setting IRQs in XP does don't work unless you completely
reinstall Windows which I want to avoid if possible.

This is a Dell problem. Your Latitude 800 is ACPI compatible and
should be able to share IRQs among devices. Since you can not shift
or change IRQs without completely reinstalling the OS and selecting a
non ACPI HAL (not recommended anyway) there is nothing that can be
done except for a fix by Dell.

The only thing I can suggest is to go into the CMOS setup program and
see if you can disable the COM port which is conflicting when the
machine is docked. You might want to ask Dell tech support (good
luck) if they have updated drivers for the port replicator.
