Resolving IRQ conflict in Windows XP

Michael Folkendt

Can anyone help me resolve an IRQ conflict between the
network and the video card in Windows XP Home edition.
The network is imbedded on the motherboard (soyo Dragon
Plus) and when I install it, Windows assigns it to IRQ
11. This happens to be also the assigned IRQ for my ATI
Radeo 8500 Graphics card. When ever I activate/install
the network, my system locks up as soon as I attempt to
use it. In the Device Manager, it appears that Windows XP
does not allow me to change the IRQ resource. Anyone have
any ideas?
Thanks,
Michael

Don't think this is your problem. IRQ sharing is normal in XP. I also have
the SOYO Dragon Plus MB, the onboard NIC and my ATI card also share IRQ11,
with no problems. Look at your network settings for a problem.

XP does not have an easy way to change IRQ sharing. However, you can
sometimes force a different mix of IRQs by installing the PCI cards in
different slots.

Also, some motherboards (e.g., ASUS P4S8X) have BIOS-level controls that set
IRQs by device in a broad sense. So, check your motherboard manual.
