IrfanView: customising a crop?

How exactly do you go about getting say a 3:4 ratio crop when using
IV's Create Custom Selection dialog please? Take this large image I'm
viewing: it's 1871 x 2544, so it's a 'Portrait' shape. When I open
Create Custom Selection I see (on the left side) width is already set
to 800 and height is 600. That's 4:3, the reverse ratio to what I
want. If I enable '3:4' on the right and then 'Apply to Image' I would
expect it to give me what I'm after, but it remains in landscape mode.

I've tried various other combinations of settings but so far have not
stumbled upon a quick and easy way to achieve this.

This is what you want. However, there's an additional step. You must
still set the x and y coords and also input the height or width you
want. The other value will be calculated from the ratio you selected.

After enabling 3:4 on the right you need to put a figure in either
height or width on the left - the other one will fill in to the ratio
you've chosen.
