Irfanview - batch resize difficulty

J

Jack

Irfan view resizes to a size different than requested.

I am trying to resize several images to 4.75" by 4.75".

*Irfan view reports the original image as:

2353 x 2360 Pixels
32.68" x 32.78"
DPI is blank, but computes to 72 DPI

I am trying to resize several images to 4.75" by 4.75".

*In the resize dialogue box, I enter "4.75" for width and leave height
blank.

*"Preserve aspect ratio" is checked.

*Irfanview creates images that are sized 4" by 4".

*With "preserve aspect ratio" checked, Irfanview creates an image that
is sized 4" by 4", not 4.75" by 4.75".

*When using "image|resize/resample" for a single image, Irfanview
returns a size of 4.75" by 4.76", keeping aspect ratio intact.

Any explanation for this behaviour? What might I be doing wrong?

What version are you using?
Latest is v3.91
*"Preserve aspect ratio" is checked.

means keep the same porportions--
if it's a rectangle and you make it bigger or smaller
it will always come out a rectangle
you are starting with a rectangle
you can't make it square with "Preserve aspect ratio" checked.

When I tried an image with your size specified [in pixels]
I get w 4.75" x h 4.76" in inches [342 x 343 pixels]
with "Preserve aspect ratio" checked and it's resized
[4.75 entered in width box only]

I get w 4.75" x h 4.75" in inches [342 x 342 pixels]
without "Preserve aspect ratio" checked and it's resized
[4.75 entered in width and height boxes]

The only time I saw the numbers 4 x 4 is if units are in
pixels and 4.75 is still in or entered in the 'Set new size' width
box
