internet explorer toolbars disappear

Not sure how this happened but the toolbars keep disappearing. When they do
appear, they are condensed into only one toolbar line. Not all of the
features I want to see appear and the full drop-down lists don't appear.

I can sometimes get the toolbars (one line only) to appear by hovering over
the top of the screen but they don't stay there.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Please state your IE version full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista
SP1).

What third-party toolbars are installed (e.g., Google; Yahoo; Windows Live;
Skype)?

Sure. It's WinXP SP3. The Google toolbar used to be installed but I removed
it thinking that might be causing a problem. Unfortunately the problem
remains. A pdf toolbar is also installed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Are you referring to the disappearance of third-party toolbars or the IE
toolbar?

Does hitting the F11 key restore it/them?

Yes, F11 seems to bring the IE toolbas back. Thank you.

Now the question is how to change the toolbars so they aren't squeezed
together on one line and how to make the drop-down menus show all the items.
Any suggestions?

F11 = Kiosk or full-screen mode. WYSIWYG in Kiosky mode (toolbars
"squeezed together on one line" and only visible when you hover over the
very top of the window.

If you're not in Kiosk mode and the toolbars are "squeezed together" => Grab
the bottom edge of the toolbar w/your cursor and and "push" it all the way
up, then "pull" it down as far as it will go, then "push" it back up a
little until the toolbar displays as you want it. Now LOCK the toolbar.

Thank you. That worked. Too bad it was so hard to figure out what to do
when the solution appears to be so easy.

YW. You threw us a curve by saying "toolbars [plural] keep disappearing,"
LS.
