Internet Explorer Slow Down Problem

A

Andrew

System Spec: WXP Home with all updates installed to date,
(IE6), 2.8 P4, 512mb RAM
1.5mbit ADSL

Problem:

I d/loaded and installed the free versions of Ad-Aware and
spybot, and mozilla/firefox. I removed all spyware and
then immunized against it with spybot. then i opened IE6 &
mozilla/firefox and found both were running VERY slowly.

websites are taking AGES to load up, when they were taking
seconds before.

What i have done: obviously the first thing i did was
uninstall both programs, no effect. i reinstalled them and
uninstalled them again. i have cleared out all cookies
and internet temp files etc from IE6 internet options
menu, no effect.

I have also run windows dick clean up and defrag.

I contacted my isp and they say everything is running
fine. This is backed-up by the fact that file downloads
from the net run at between 200-130kb/s (normal for my
1.5meg connection.) So I am only getting slow down on
opening webpages.

I have also run 2*upto date virus protection packages - no
virus/trojans.

its not possible to remove IE6 from XP is it?

how can i proceed? (a format and full reinstall of XP will
break me!)

thanks in advance

Andrew

Uninstalling a program after you have made registry changes
does not undo those changes. I have not had slow down
problems with either Ad-Aware or SpyBot and I have removed
all detections and have used SpyBot to immunize and set the
hosts file.
I also have SpySites and a few other programs that I use
every so often.
Do you have the XP firewall turned ON or a third party, it
is essential on a DSL connection.
Some websites are just slower than others, try several high
bandwidth sites at different times of the day before you
condemn your system, there are limits to server bandwidth.
Note that the Internet suffered an attack this week that
shutdown sever domains and slowed many others. If your
problem is related to Yahoo, Google, Microsoft and others,
that could be your problem and the use of SpyBot/Ad-Aware
could just be a coincidence.
