internet explorer automatic configuration

G

Graham Turner

was wondering if anyone could give me some information on the differences
between an "auto-proxy URL" vs "auto-config URL" as need to be entered into
the "automatic browser configuration" settings for a GPO

the lan settings GUI of Internet Explorer seems only to have a single value
of "use automatic configuration script" - and so does not seem to "map"
directly to the settings that are entered in to a GPO

on the premise that the IE is being configured using pretty much the default
configuration script provided with MS proxy server 2.0 is any one able to
confirm which one of these two values should be completed with the
appropriate path ?

TIA

Graham,

Autoconfig points to an install.ins or a PAC file. And can be used to
totally configure IE, this is normally used in conjunction with IEAK to
create a custom install of IE via a .ins file.

Autoproxy will just configure the proxy info in IE. Autoproxy is the one you
want.

If you need additional assistance with this or clarification please post to
the IEAK or IE newsgroups.
