Hi,
I want to remove Norton Internet Secuity 2007 and install new free antivirus
(AVG) and a firewall (Zone Alarm) on my PC. The first time I attempted this
(doing it in the above order using Add/ Install programs to remove Norton and
the new Program installation programs) Internet Explorer(IE) was working
until I had installed Zone Alarm, and from then on IE would not open at all
when I opened it (however when I shut down windows XP an Internet Explorer
error message appeared saying it had not shut down properly even though no IE
window was open on shut down and XP told me that no applications were running
in Task Manager.)
I then tried a system restore using Norton Go back to return my PC to before
installing Zone Alarm and IE still did not work. I then tried restoring it
back to where I started with Norton running- and IE was working again. I
still need to remove Norton and install the new software though, so this time
I removed Norton again using Add/remove programs and IE again stops working-
so I again restore the system to where it was in the beginning and IE starts
working again.
My problem, is what can I do to remove Norton and add the replacement
software whilst keeping IE working? It is really worring that removing
programs is having such a devastating effect on the function of my PC. I
don't want to be tied to Norton- it's slowing down my PC!
