Internet Explorer 5.X & SP3

Running Win2000 Pro with SP3. The original Internet
Explorer version showed 5.00.3502.1000. I went to the
Microsoft web site and download and ran Windows 2000
Internet Explorer SP3. The information advised that this
download was still available and included IE 5.01.

After running the download and re-booting, I checked the
version of my IE and it still shows version
5.00.3502.1000. Why doesn't it show version 5.01 ??

The reason I am asking is that I am planning to install a
security program for my computer (Norton Security 2004)
and it advises that IE 5.01 & SP1 are required.

Am I O.K. ? Thanks for your comments

Hi

Yes, you are OK, you are running IE 5.01 SP3.

Win2k comes with IE 5.01 (the version in the Help/About is a bit
misleading with this 5.00.xxxx.xxxx thing).

As long as you keep the 5.01 version and not upgrade to IE 5.5 or
IE 6, when you install SP3 for Win2k, you will also get your IE
upgraded to IE 5.01 SP3 (and you can't avoid it either). If you
install SP4 for Win2k, you will also automatically get IE 5.01 SP4.

Note that the only way to upgrade to IE 5.01 SP3 is to install SP3
for Win2k (the same goes for IE 5.01 SP4/Win2k SP4). If you have
upgraded IE to IE 5.5 or IE 6, a Win2k service pack upgrade will
not upgrade/touch IE.

If you look up "5.00.3502.1000" in the URL below, you will see that
it is listed as "Internet Explorer 5.01 SP3 (Windows 2000 SP3 only)"
