Internet Connection

I try to connect to the internet with either my old 50' ethernet cable, or a
bran new 50' ethernet cable. I can only connect using a 10 foot cable. CAn
someone please help me?

Network cables do not connect to the Internet they connect Network devices.
If you would explain what kind of devices you are using, and what is Not
working, may be some one would be able to help.

Are you trying to connect your computer Network Card to a Broad Band Modem
like Cable or DSL Service?

Without a description of what it is that you are, trying to connect with the
cable it is impossible to give you an answer.

i simply asked how to tell the difference when purchasing the cables,
