Internet connection sharing weirdness

Hi,

I have a weird one.

I am using WiFi to connect to the Internet from my laptop, all works
well.

I have install a bluetooth adapter, using BlueSoleil 1.6 and I have
enabled PAN, I have setup ICS and the PAN interface has been assigned
an IP of 192.168.0.1.

I have connected my PocketPC PDA to the PAN and it has been assigned
an IP of 192.168.0.101 so all looks well.

The PDA cannot access the Internet. I have run up wireshark to get an
idea as to what is happening. I have set up monitoring on the PAN
interface. I can dee DNS requests entering on the PAN interface but no
replies. I checked the WiFi interface but the requests do not get as
far as that.

I set a ping running from my laptop to the PDA. I can see packets
going to the PDA, I can see replies coming back from the PDA but ping
does NOT SEE the replies.

Can anyone shed any light on what is happening here or give me
suggestions as to what to try next? I have hit a brick wall.

Many thanks,

You are right. This is a peculiar fault. It sounds as though the
bluetooth stack on your box is faulty. I see that Bluesoleil is at
version 6, rather than 1.6. I would suggest an upgrade.

Hi Bogwitch,

I seem to have made some progress. The problem seems to stem from the
fact that by bluetooth dongle is a bit iffy. For some peculiar reason,
it has a MAC address of 11:11:11:11:11:11 now, the PAN interface
appears to have been configured with a MAC address of
10:11:11:11:11:11 - if I change it in Device Manager it all starts
working.

I now have another, weirder problem but that appears to be more
related to the Pocket_PC than the networking side of things. I can
access some websites, such as Ebay with no problem at all - Ebay
actually detects that I'm using a small screen device and displays a
cut-sown version as appropriate - nice touch. :) But other sites, for
example google, yahoo, altavista - not working. The Wireshark logs
seem to suggest that once the PDA issues a GET, the site issues an RST
packet! I'm completely confused but I think this is not the best group
to be asking, so I'm off to find a more relevant one.

Thanks for trying to help,

notlikely
