internet connection required for XP?

Jeff

I am considering purchasing a new computer with the
Windows XP Home edition software installed. I do not plan
on using this computer to surf the internet. Does XP
require an internet connection in order to use it? I know
that I can activate the software by telephone, but during
the life of the software does Microsoft require the
computer to be connnected to the Internet?

Thanks very much--Jeff

no. once you activate by phone you should be set for life, and safer than
most users who are connected to the internet. just remember, before or as
soon as you do connect to the internet, make sure you install all the latest
security patches.

An Internet connection supplements Windows XP very nicely, but it is
not necessary. You'll miss out on some features, but you'll still be
able to run XP.

There is no requirement to do so; but if you want to get updates you
would have to find some other means of getting them. eg SP1 is
available on a CD, or you could download updates to another machine and
put them on a CD there.
