internet connection problems

hi there
i'm running windows xp professional with internet
explorer version 6.
when i connect to the internet, it takes anything between
10 minutes and 60 minutes where i cannot open any web
pages. the system then says "cannot find web page" i then
have to disconnect and reconnect to be able to continue
browsing.

can u pleeezzz assist with the problem?
