Internet Connection Problem

I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and FireFox V2.0.0.4

Recently I have started facing a peculiar problem.

My Net connection is breaking down repeatedly.

If I am surfing a site, I can do it.

But if I want to go to another site I get the message firefox cannot find
the requested server.

I have to repeatedly press enter to get to the site.

Sometime this also does'nt help.

This happens omly when I am trying to go (connect)to a site.

Suppose during this time if I am downloading something my downloading
continues without a break - which shows there is nothing wrong with my
Net connection.

The problem is not with my incoming connection but with the outgoing one.

Also problem seems to be with my system as friends PC is working fine with
my connection.

I have run all the anti virus and anti spyware programs.

Nothing was found.

I hope I have been able to state my problem clearly.

Any help in this regard will be of great help to me.

See if the problem occurs with Internet Explorer too.

Yes.
Not only with IE.
When this problem occurs, I cannot even open Outlook Express.
I have to repeatedly click OE Icon or sometime have to ping to start the
connection.

Try this:

Turn your Modem/Router for about 40 secs or so then your Computer for the
same length of time.
Turn On the Modem/Router and wait for a 30-40 secs or so then Turn your
Computer and try to connect and see if the connection will last.
If it doesn't then your winsock is damaged and you need to repair it:
Manually :
Open a run command and type in:
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
Reboot your machine.
Or download this tool:
WinsockFixer;
http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html
Let it run and when it finished it will prompt you to reboot, do so.

Another, try updating the firmware for the Router/Modem.

What firewall are you using ?.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
First method (repairing Manually) did not solve the problem.
But following your second suggestion I downloaded and ran the program.
It solved my problem
I am using COMODO Firewall Pro.
