Internet Connection Problem

I am so frustrated with Windows XP SP2! I have a DSL connection to the
internet and leave my computer running most of the day. I am finding that
my browser gets blocked from the internet and I cannot access any sites
unless I reboot. This happens periodically through the day. It is not my
ISP because I can access newsgroups and send and receive mail so I
definitely have a good connection. I have both IE6 and Firefox installed on
my computer and neither one can access the internet. I'll close the
browsers and then reopen but that doesn't help. I had this problem with my
old computer which had XP installed. One of the updates to WindowsXP seemed
to cause the problem so I did a system restore and quit doing updates and
everything ran fine--no more problems. I now have a new computer and it
came with SP2 so now I'm stuck with the same problem. I run ZoneAlarm for a
firewall and have it set up the way I did on my old computer giving my
browsers full access. There must be something in SP2 which is causing this
but I cannot figure it out. It's a real pain to continually have to reboot.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Have you tried ruling out Zone Alarm? I used to run ZA but stopped about a
year ago because of problems. I'm running XP Pro SP2 w/ latest updates and
no problems. I use a router and Windows Firewall built into SP2.

No, I haven't tried using the Windows Firewall instead of Zone Alarm. I
guess because I used Zone Alarm with XP for 4 years on my old computer
without any problems (except for one of the Windows upgrades which I quickly
got rid of). I'll disable it and try using Windows and see what happens.
Thanks.
