Internet Connection keeps being broken

I use WinXP and IE6 on a laptop and dial into an ISP,
Tiscali. Within 10 minutes I get a message like,"This
programme has to close down. This message comes from
NTAuthority\System" There is also some information about a
"Remote Proceedure Call"
I have no idea what all this means, so wondered if anyone
could help me troubleshoot this? I have tried the same
call connection from home and work with the same effect. So
it can't be the phone line. The PC works normally as a
standalone and network attached.

How often to you check for virus?
This may be the culprit.
