Internet Access Problem

My OS is Windows 2000. I have IE 6.0. When I click on IE nothing comes
up...loads extremely slow then "the page cannot be displayed". However, whe
accessing through "my favorites" to secure websites (https), there is not a
problem as long as I stay within the secure site. It is impossible for me to
link back to an unsecure site (http). Any suggestions anybody?

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.
