INTERNAL SPEAKER BEEP

R

A few weeks ago I began to hear a beep at random times.
The beep is comming from the internal speaker of on of our
office computers. This computer is running Windows 2000
Professional. There is no spyware to be found on this
machine and attempts to turn off the speaker from the
registry have failed. Any ideas before I disconnect the
speaker wire?

Check the mb manual for the beep codes something may have failed. If it
comes from the OS you can find and configure it under Device
Manager|View|Show Hidden Devices|Non Plug and
Play|Beep|Action|Properties|Driver, then set the "Startup Type:" to
"Disabled"

It isn't a good idea to "pull the wire" as this beep may be
something that is trying to tell you something that may
generate problems in the future if it isn't corrected.

Follow Dave's advice. Also go to the MB's web site
to determine whether this beep does mean something.

Good luck!

Any chance it has had sound card drivers updated from M$ (hic)updates?
If so it may the soundcard isn't working correctly and the beeps may be
system events channeled to the PC speaker instead of the soundcard.

That is very possible...do you have any suggestions as to
what I could do to find out?
