Interface Language

G

Guest

I recently bought a PC in The Netherlands and it has Vista Home Basic on it
with only the Dutch language installed. I can"t work with a Dutch
environment, so I'm completely lost. I thought I'd be able to change it to
English, but i am still unable to do so.
Does anyone know how i can change the interface language to English?

Thank you...

you can either upgrade to ultimate and add the english language from the
ultimate extra downloads
or

buy an english vista and reformat!

Or, install Ubuntu and change languages at will.

Get it free at www.ubuntu.com

Tiberius's "solution" to the Vista blues is to go back to XP. It's sad
really, that computer users are being encouraged to go back to an old
out-dated toy operating system because Vista is such a bloated piece of
crapware. It's like calling Microsoft's aPhone an innovative product that
should be adopted because it works better than the new fangled gadgets ...

You're absolutely right Alias. Those dissatisfied with Vista should move on
over to a new and innovative operating system like Ubuntu rather than
having to resort to an old has-been like XP that is full of insecurities
and still requires "activation".

it is not outdated... XP is much alive, updates are being created, and it is
better equipt to handle the present,
than any other OS that exists on this planet.

XP is better than any linux for the same reasons its better than vista:

1)It supports almost all hardware
2)Programs install and work flawlessly
3)It has fantastic speed and reliability

the only drawback of it is that like all windows its prone to viruses and
malware.

I am not encouraging people to stay with the old. I encourage them to use
what is best.
If vista was not such a horrid monstrosity I would say go with that....
If linux had better hardware support and was easy to configure and maintain,
and more programs were ported to it
I would say go with that....

I don't care about what the name of the OS is or when it was made.. all I
care about is for it to WORK

XP just works.. in contrast to Vista and Linux

Linux supports far more hardware ... read CPUs.
2)Programs install and work flawlessly

As they do on Ubuntu. Except the software is free for Ubuntu. Installation
is much easier than it is under XP.
3)It has fantastic speed and reliability
Nowhere close to Linux.

Yep.

Well, then you haven't met "best" yet. :)

It is, so I say, go with that.

And Ubuntu works VERY well.
XP just works.. in contrast to Vista and Linux
Bullshit.

Thank you Alias,

But i have no wish to install a new OS again....my Vista came with the new
computer and i wish that my old one was still alive and kicking with XP on
it.

There has to be a way to fix this language problem without buying a new OS
or installing a new programme, isn't there a service pack or an update that
takes care of that? i couldn't find anything on the update pages.

Thanks for helping me though.

Purchase a copy of Windows Vista in English and clean-install it. There's
no other way to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Windows Vista Language Interface Pack (LIP).‌ Windows Vista LIPs provide a
translated version of the most widely used areas of the user interface. LIPs
are freely available to download, and most LIPs can be installed and used on
any edition of Windows Vista. Because not all of the user interface is
translated, LIPs require at least one parent language. The parts of the user
interface that are not translated into the LIP language are displayed in the
parent language. When you download a LIP, you get the parent language
requirements for that language. The parent language pack needs to be
installed before the LIP can be installed. For more information, including a
list of languages available for downloading, go to the Microsoft Local
Language website.

No, there is no way to do it. If it's really new, you can take it back
to the shop and ask them to exchange it for an English one. Whether they
will do that or not, however ...

With Ubuntu, you need not buy *anything*. You don't even have to nuke
your Dutch Vista. You can dual boot. The installation of Ubuntu is MUCH
easier than Vista or XP.

How quaint. The same was true with Windows 95, 98 and Me except with
those OSs, you got the language packs at Windows Update.
When you download
a LIP, you get the parent language requirements for that language. The
parent language pack needs to be installed before the LIP can be
installed. For more information, including a list of languages available

Stupid, stupid, stupid solution. It's like giving a man having a heart
attack a band aid.

Good post Mr. T
I do think that Vista has the potential to be the best, given time. I've
had good luck with using it, no major problems, as you say though, speed is
an issue with some areas.
One thing that I'm noticing, I've had this install since Jan, there is no
slowdown like there was in XP over time. I know that some people will say
it's early yet, but I've had a LOT of software installed and removed from
this system over that time, and not just good solid applications either, a
lot of beta has gone through this machine. And it still runs as it did new
speed wise, hang-ups and crashes are getting less frequent, the reliability
monitor is showing a steady climb and now stands at 9.96.

Just my humble opinion

Doris Linux is not ready for the mainstream desktop use...

If something goes wrong in linux you are screwed.. you have to use shells
and type commands,
even the information on how to solve problems is a problem since there are
too many distros and the linux
geeks just don't know how to speak common simple English when they post!
believe me I know!!!

and I cant use it for work either since I use adobe and corel products and
some Microsoft ones too..
and a myriad of small versatile applications that just do not exist in
linux....

So its not good for the common non-geek person because if something goes
wrong you are in big trouble
and its not good for most of the professionals that use programs that are
not ported to linux
and DO NOT have a equivalent of the same superb quality....

then who is it good for? Servers, computers for old people that use a
browser only, and geeks who know how to geek all day.

Its not ready... it could be better, it can be better, it WILL be better..
but its not there yet...

Don't get me wrong.. I have tested almost all linux distros known to man....
I use linux out of curiosity...
and have been using it since 1999.. thats a solid 8 years of experience....

But I have not found 1 linux that can do all that I want, and I am sure this
is the case for most people.

Im not anti-linux... I am pro-anything that is good enough for all I need to
do.

PS. I never really liked Ubuntu... mandrake (mandriva) and suse were always
better in my opinion
Now I like PCLINUXOS 2007 because it has the codecs you need to play various
media out of the box

I am suspecting that Distrowatch was paid off from the multimillionaire that
funded Ubuntu to put it top of the list of that site
and slowly it got more attention.. now its being developed fast.. but I
still don't like everything about it...

Ubuntu 5 and 6 were a joke compared to mandriva and suse... even 7 doesn't
have the latest thunderbird and you cant even
update it easily....

Sorry... if I was given a choice between ubutnu and Vista that I hate so
much I would chose vista... even though its horrid...
I dont have ubuntu or any linux... its not there yet...
