Interactive print jobs across Windows XP Network

I have an HP PSC printer on an XP desktop. I am connecting to that printer
over network from an XP laptop. With this printer, when duplex printing the
software pops up a dialog prompting user to flip paper and the dialog has a
"continue button". I'd like to be able to get that dialog to come up on the
laptop when the print job is initiated there. Trouble is, right now, when I
send a print job from laptop, the dialog pops up on the desktop. Thus I am
forced to log into the desktop to hit "continue" and finish the job.

Can I configure this setup so that when a duplex print job is initiated from
the laptop on the printer that's shared from the desktop the duplex printing
dialog pops up on the laptop?

Probably only if you reconfigure your network so that the printer is on a
print server, rather than connected to a local PC.

I'm not sure if I set up a print server but what I actually ended up having
to do was setting the printer to "print directly to printer" instead of
spooling (I think that's part of configuring it as a print serveR).
Unfortunately that degrades printing performance, but it's the only way I
could get the printer to interact with the right client.

thanks
