Need help sharing usb printer in xp

I have a hp a405n desktop running windows xp, a canon i860 printer connected
to a usb port on the desktop, a wireless router connected by ethernet cable
to the desktop, and a macbook laptop running os x. The laptop has no problem
seeing and sharing files with the desktop via the wireless network. It also
sees the printer, but is unable to print to it. Both the laptop and the
desktop have the i860 printer driver installed. The print job moves from the
laptop to the desktop printer queue and the print queue states that the
document is 'printing', but nothing comes out of the printer.

Ron's article didn't help, but after further googling and hacking this solved
the problem:

- install the unix print server in Windows XP. See
www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3002.html.
- in the printer setup on the MAC choose canon, and then select the gimp
driver for the model 7000. See www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html
