Intellimouse Freezes After SP2 install

After installing WinXP SP2, my intellimouse 4.0 freezes periodically when I
am typing. This happens in all programs. I have the latest driver. Any
thoughts on how to solve this problem?

Thanks Ted: when I do update in mouse properties, it checks and says I have
the latest version. Are there some specific steps I need to take to
reinstall the software?

Try moving the receiver to where the mouse can see it better. (And you did
check the mouse's batteries, didn't you?)

By the way, the latest mouse driver is up to version 5.5

Un-install the Intellipoint drivers from "Add/Remove Programs." Reboot and
re-install the latest version (5.5)

Also, the newest Intellipoint 5.5 drivers have a feature where the mouse
pointer is "hidden" when typing. Could this be your problem?

Also, how is the mouse connected to the PC (USB or PS/2???)

My mouse is attached via USB and I did have 5.5 installed. I am going to
uninstall the Intellipoint software and then try reinstalling and see if it
works. I'll let you know.

I uninstalled the Intellipoint 5.5 software and am using the native WinXP
drivers, but I still have the problem with the cursor freezing continuously.
Any other ideas?

I finally uninstalled SP2 and the problem went away. I then reinstalled SP2
and the problem reappeared. I would just as soon not have the SP2, but MS is
discontinuing support of SP1 as of Oct 10th. I do install all the Windows
updates as I receive notification. This is really driving me nuts that it is
somehow conflicting with my mouse even though I am now running only the
native windows mouse drivers and uninstalled Intellipoint sofware. Any other
ideas. Thanks

You may want to also check for updated video drivers, they have been known to cause mouse visual
problems too. I am still using the Intellipoint 5.0 version with no issues, mouse is Intellimouse
Explorer 3.0 and have used SP2 since it was first released.
