Intel Desktop Utilities and Live OneCare Conflict

T

Tom Lake

I can't find an English Live OneCare newsgroup so, since I'm running XP MCE,
I'll ask here. From the title, I thought this group was ONLY for the XP
Help and Support application but from the messages I see it's not!

Is anyone here running Live OneCare and the Intel Desktop Utilities (IDU)
together?
If so, HOW??? If I disable the firewall, the IDU runs fine. When I
activate the
firewall, IDU won't run. Intel said to open ports 2804 and 9999 to local
traffic
which I did but no success. I even tried opening all ports 1 to 65536 with
no luck!

Please help! Thank you.

Tom : There is no "open" LiveOneCare newsgroup. A "Perpetual LiveOneCare
Beta" is currently in the hands of Beta testers with a "closed" newsgroup
(microsoft.beta.windowsliveonecare).

There are problems with OneLiveCare's firewall particularly when Windows
firewall is also active.

You are correct in your assumption that the original purpose of this
newsgroup was to address the "Help and Suppot" function of XP.

OneCare works very well on
my Intel Desktop.

However, I had no need for
the Intel Utilities that were
provided as extras.

I can't find an English Live OneCare newsgroup so, since I'm running XP MCE,
I'll ask here. From the title, I thought this group was ONLY for the XP
Help and Support application but from the messages I see it's not!

You are exactly right. This newsgroup was created for help with the
Windows XP Help and Support *feature*, not for general Windows XP help
and support. However it was named very badly, and its purpose has been
so widely misunderstood to be for general support that its original
purpose is long forgotten and ignored.

Sorry, I don't use Live OneCare, and can't help with your problem.

Does your version of Intel Desktop Utilities have the Symantec Security
Software bundled with it? That could be were the problem is.

I do not use Windows Live OneCare. Or Windows Live anything for that
matter.
