installing XP problems

I am trying to upgrade, but having 2 problems during
install.
1. During setup while in windows, it reads XP does not
recognize 3COM(which was an old 56k modem that I dont use
anymore). I removed this device but still prompts during
setup, can I ignore this?

2. During install it reboots to XP setup in DOS mode, I
get a prompt in DOS that reads...Line 81 of INF
file\$WIN_NT$.~BT\WINNT.SIF is invalid, then it says it
cannot continue.

How do I fix this problem, the booklet didnt give any
explanation for this.

Go into the Add & Remove Programs and remove the drivers for the 3COM modem.

Run the Windows XP upgrade adviser and see how compatible your system is.
