Greetings,
I assume you mean Windows Messenger 5 as opposed to MSN Messenger 5.
To fix this, firstly, make sure that Windows Messenger 5 and MSN Messenger 6 are both closed.
You may even want to load up the Task Manager (press Ctrl-Alt-Del or right-click in the
taskbar and choose Task Manager) and make sure that msmsgs.exe and msnmsgr.exe are not
running.
Then uninstall Windows Messenger 5 by clicking Start, then Run, and type the following:
msiexec /x {1F0BD960-6525-4FEE-B577-2473F77F1277}
then click OK.
Then, after uninstallation, reinstall Windows Messenger 5 from:
