Installer attempts to install wrong program

A Michigan Attorney

I recently tried to install a program called "billing tracker", but the
initial window (which gives the proper program name) closes after a few
seconds and the installer for "Intel Chipset Installation Utility
Version 5.00.1012" opens and attempts to install.

I've deleted all temporary files in the windows temp directory and the
user's documents and settings\temp directory, but the problem persists.

Any ideas what's wrong and how to fix it?

Try putting "billing tracker" in a separate folder and running the install
from there.

Try cleaning out your c:\windows\temp directory and look in the c:\windows
\installer directory to see if there is anything strange, but be carefull
when working in the installer directoy hold anything you delete from this
directory for awhile in the recycle bin to make sure it dont mess up the OS

Hi,

Click start/run, type 'msiexec /regserver', then click ok. After a moment,
reboot the system and try again. You might also want to take a look at this
registry key (or export a copy and send it to me at the address used here):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer

For those following the thread......

A follow up via private email reveals a corrupt ImagePath string in the
registry key mentioned above. Directions were sent to change the value of
this string from a lengthy hex value to this (assuming a default install to
C:\Windows):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe /V

then reregister the installer per the previous instructions and reboot.
