Installed latest WinXP Security Patches, now IE won't run!

Well, like the subject line says, I installed all of Microsoft's latest
CRITICAL security patches that came out the other day...12 of 'em I think.
And now IE won't run on my system any longer. Multiple attempts to launch it
only cause the system to lock up.

Is there any way to fix this, short of uninstalling the patches?

Thanks,

I have the same kind of problem but for Win98. It can never connect to any
sites, MSN also can't sign in. I'm using Opera right now instead.

Try this. Go to start > run > sfc /scannow >OK. Have installation disc at
hand for file repairs. This will correct a lot of problems.

So what / how many viruses / spywares do you have on your system ?
That no doubt is your real problem
If the Microsoft security patches were the problem, we would all be
experiencing the issue that you are having, and that is not the case.

Hi Jay,

No messages. It simply doesn't run. If I try to launch another browser the
system locks up. Nothing in the event viewer either.

I don't believe I have any viruses or spywares on my system. I'm running
Norton Internet Security 2004 with all the latest definitions, and run a full
scan weekly. I use Microsoft Spyware Beta, Ad-Aware 1.05, Spybot Search &
Destroy, Yahoo's AntiSpyware toolbar, and Spyware Blaster.

In my experience, not everyones system is the same, so your response that
everyone would be having this problem is rather presumptious. Further, I AM
having the problem, and perhaps there are others. Hence my post
here...problems have to be reported, don't you agree?

Mark, thank you for the excellent advice! This resolved the issue without
even a re-boot. IE is up and running again.
