Installation Repeat

I have been trying to upgrade my computer (Gateway M350X)
from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Professional. It is
currently in the 'Installing Windows' mode. It goes for
about five minutes filling the 'Installing Devices' bar
2/3 green before shutting off. The computer automatically
restarts showing two options: 'Boot Menu F10' and 'BIOS
Settings F2.'The screen quickly goes black with the
following displayed: 'Press any key to BOOT from CD. . . A
few seconds later, there is a blue screen that
reads 'Setup is being restarted. . . .' This cycle has
gone on for over eight hours. If anyone would know how to
fix this, I would appreciate the reply. Thank you.

eight hours is far too long.
How did you start this upgrade, fromwindows XP
home, or by booting the cdrom?

I'm very computer illiterate. I turned on the computer
with XP Home Edition and popped in the disc Microsoft XP
Professional and went from there.

Usually failures to install Microsoft operating systems stem from
hardware issues - bad RAM, bad hard drive. Perhaps it would be best for
you to take the computer to a good local repair shop (not CompUSA or
BestBuy) and have them look at it.
