Install Pro over Home

I have XP Home Edition on my brand new Dell computer. Want to install XP Pro
"over" it, but I get an message (in Norwegian, both OS' are norwegian) that
says Home Edition is newer than Pro so Pro can't be installed.
Is this because of SP2? What can i do?

Hi

You will need to make a slipstreamed SP2 CD:

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:

Or else uninstall SP2 before upgrading. Re-install it afterward.

Yes, it's because of SP2. Because you have SP2 installed, and
your XP Professional Upgrade CD is without it, it is an older
version than what's installed.

What can i do?

You have two choices:

1. Uninstall SP2, do the upgrade, then reinstall SP2.

2. Create a slipstreamed version of XP Professional, including
SP2, and use it. See
