Incorrect Album ID

I'm having trouble trying to correctly label my CD-to-MP3
data in the Media Library. I've allowed for the exact
album search on the AllMusicGuide (checking the website to
verify), but often - particularly with multiple disc
album's - I get alternate releases, compilations, etc. but
not the actual CD info.

Is there a way to MANUALLY SEARCH the database, or else
alter the ALBUM ID tag to ensure that the CD is correctly
labelled?

Thanks.

Use MP3 tagging software instead. Tag&Rename offers a 30-day trip period.

Thanks for replying, Galley!

Yes, I'm already using an MP3 tagger, but it doesn't seem
to properly affect the "Find Album Info" in the database --
it annoys me that a perfectly-syntax tagged mp3
(according to the AllMusicGuide) still can't "find" itself
on the database. So no matter how complete I make it in an
external tagger, it still comes up as "Not Found"
or "Unknown".

If only I could somehow MANUALLY SEARCH the AllMusicGuide
database from within WMA9. That's what I'm really looking
to do.

Thanks again,

RP

You can do that in Tag&Rename. http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

Hi again,

I tried the program, which works great for creating
definitive Tagging within the program. However, the album
still comes up "unknown" or "not found" in WMP-9; and
a "Find Album Info" search only yields the same results:

When searching for David Bowie/Aladdin Sane [30th
Anniversay Edition] Disc 1, track #1, I get only the
original "Aladdin Sane" album info (as well as a series
of meaningless compilation CD's).

It's manually controlling the WMA9 search that I need.
Does the Tag&Rename have something for doing that, or is
it the same as any other Tagger?

Hope that clarifies my problem a little better, Galley!

Thanks again for your time,

I am guessing that by now you have discovered T&R's "Get Info from AllMusic"
feature. It's the globe icon with an arrow on it. It will normally fill in the
album name, but you can use the buttons at the top of the resulting form to
auto-fill Artist, Album and Track Name. It won't get you correct results 100%
of the time, but you can navigate to the proper album, and then use the "Get
Info" button at the top of the form.
If that doesn't help, perhaps you could delete the files from WMP, and then add
them, to see if the library updates with the new info.

Thanks again for the reply, Galley.

Yes, I have been using the AMG search - manually,
usually - to find exactly what I want and updating it.
However, the same problem occurs when I input the revised
Tag data (having erased all existing data) back into
WMP9. Using my previous example:

"Aladdin Sane [30th Anniversary Edition] Disc 1" becomes
simply "Aladdin Sane" in WMP9, while WMP9 finds "Disc 2"
(it's interesting, too, that AMG through T&R doesn't use
the Disc1/Disc2 cataloguing system, but WMP9 does)

This happens, by the way, when I actually click "Update
Album Info" in WMP9. However, if I don't it renames
either "Unknown" or "Not Found". This is what I was
trying to avoid ... oh well.

Actually, what I've decided to do is simply DISABLE
the "Find Album Feature" in WMP9 and use the T&R program
exclusively, since it's the only way to TRUST the
information will be perfect ... I'm a bit anal that way :)

Hopefully, Microsoft will recognize the need for users to
access the AMG database themselves, instead of relying on
the limited "auto-search" functions it has provided.

Again, thanks for the tip on T&R, Galley. BTW, another
good one is GodFather, which also accesses AMG, but seems
to include EVERYTHING (too much really) from the page. Do
you know of a way to include the COMPOSER info in the
Tag&Rename? Couldn't seem to find a way to modify the
inclusions (except Comments).

THANKS!

Tag&Rename supports the latest ID3 standard, version 2.4. Select a file and
choose the "edit file tag" button and "Composer" is one of the supported fields.

Is there any way to get the automatic AMG to get you the
composer for the tags? Because other than manually
implementing them, I can't seem to find a setting that
allows me to pick what goes into the Tag from AMG.

That's a good question. Does AMG even support classical music?
